Ford F-150 vs GMC Sierra 1500
The 2018 Ford F-150 and the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 are both incredibly tough trucks—there’s no doubt about that. But in terms of performance options and included technologies, which has more to offer Pittsburgh, Wexford, and Butler drivers?
The Baierl Automotive team has put together this Ford F-150 vs. GMC Sierra 1500 comparison to help answer this question in detail. Read on to see which truck fits your needs.
Ford F-150 vs GMC Sierra 1500: Performance Options
One thing about the pickup truck sector is that you have so many options in each model. This is especially true when it comes to powertrains, as each truck offers numerous engines.
The starting engine in the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is a 4.3L ECOTEC®3 V6. This engine is able to produce 285 horsepower, which comes very close to the 290 horsepower produced by the starting engine in the Ford F-150.
If that smaller 3.3L Ti-VCT V6 in the F-150 manages to best the Sierra 1500, you can probably guess that its top option, the High Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 comes out on top, too. This engine produces 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.
The top engine in the Sierra 1500 simply can’t touch that output. The 6.2L ECOTEC®3 V8 only produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. In the muscle department, its ends up falling behind.
Ford F-150 vs GMC Sierra 1500 Towing
Given the power shown above, it’s clear that these trucks are heavy-haulers with broad towing capacity ranges (in this category, they come pretty close to each other). However, the Ford F-150 also offers a number of smart safety features geared towards towing.
First of all, a rearview camera with dynamic hitch assist is standard in the F-150. It goes above and beyond the standard rear camera, providing a sight line that will help you direct your hitch ball to the trailer receiver.
Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ and the Reverse Sensing System are also available in the F-150. These features make it easier and safer to reverse your trailer, going so far as to alert you if you’re going to hit something.
Front and Rear Park Assist are both available on the GMC Sierra 1500, as well as a Forward Collision Alert. However, it doesn’t provide features that were made specifically for operating while towing.
F-150 and Sierra 1500 Infotainment Suites
Technology is front and center in the cabins of both these trucks in the form of jam-packed infotainment systems.
In the GMC Sierra 1500, there’s the GMC Infotainment System. This feature offers mobile pairing through Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, as well as a touchscreen display and music streaming.
The Ford F-150 matches this suite in the form of available SYNC® 3 and AppLink™. These match the Sierra 1500 option in terms of mobile pairing and touchscreen capabilities. However, there’s even more conversational voice commands and navigational abilities. This makes it simple to look up restaurants or to check weather conditions.

The GMC Sierra 1500 offers some powerful engine options and nice interior amenities. However, its muscle and technologies don’t quite match those of the 2018 Ford F-150. Pittsburgh, Wexford, and Butler drivers will see this for themselves if they get behind the wheel.
