Vehicle Reviews:
2018 Ford Expedition

For 2018 Ford has built an incredibly versatile SUV with the new Expedition. The full-size SUV has more interior room, driver assist technology, updated connectivity and a host of new features. Despite looking and growing large in most dimensions the new SUV weighs 300 pounds less than its predecessor thanks to the all-aluminum body.

In addition to losing weight the redesign has created a less boxy style for the large Ford SUVs. The 2018 short wheel base version is four inches longer than the earlier model whereas the extended wheelbase of Expedition L is one inch longer. The rounded edges and lower roof height gives it a softer aerodynamic look. The sleek design helps maintain the ruggedness of Expedition but with more elegance.

The new Expedition goes on sale in fall and will be offered in XLT, Limited and Platinum trim levels for regular customers. The XL trim level is available for fleets. Extended Expedition Max which is 8 inches longer is also available.

The Platinum model provides the ultimate experience. 22 inch polished aluminum wheels and chrome grille to the refined materials inside the cabin makes it a pinnacle of style, luxury and sophistication.

Technological Advancements

Ford is said to have added 40 new features and driver assist technologies for the 2018 model of SUVs. Safety and convenience technology has been given a lot of importance. Sync Connect and Sync 3 with Android Auto and Apple Car Play capabilities, wi-fi hotspot with a 50-foot range, wireless device charging in the center console, six USB ports (2 per row), a standard 110-volt AC outlet, 12 speaker audio system and four 12-volt power sources are part of the new convenience technology offered by Ford.

The 360-degree camera, trailer backup assist and parking sensors makes maneuvering easy. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring and pre-collision warning with auto braking is also available. The four cameras on the front, rear and sides give you a complete bird’s eye view. This makes it easier to see down alleys, corners and when backing into tight spaces.

The Expedition retains the EcoBoost branded turbocharging and direct fuel injection technologies. The twin turbocharged 3.5 liter V6 has been replaced with a second generation updated version found in the 2017 F-150. It is equipped with both direct fuel injection and port.

The F-series makes 375 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 470 lb-ft. of torque at 3500 rpm. The output has not been confirmed for the Expedition yet. As Ford claims that the engine was tuned differently the peak ratings can change. Fuel economy and performance will improve slightly but the specs have not been released by Ford.

The sync connect Ford Pass feature enables you to lock, unlock and start the SUV remotely. Track its location and check fuel level and mileage from your smartphone. The innovative cargo protector design adds a lip to the edge of the load floor. This helps in keeping items where they belong.

The Ford Expedition comes in three trim levels, XLT, Limited and Premium. The base XLT provides a practical feel, whereas the Platinum trim provides greater luxury. Features such as wood accents and diamond stitched leather seat edging make the Platinum model look and feel luxurious. The spacious cabin boosts incredible room for 8 people.

Easy access to the third row of seats with adult sized legroom and ability to recline is made possible due to folding of second row seats and power sliding. The second-row features tip and slide functionality and this provides access to the third row without the need to remove child safety seats.

Both the rear rows can be folded flat and this can open up a lot of interior space. Expedition Max is the extended wheelbase version and it offers more cargo space if you need it. The Max is for people who want to go big and carry more. This is the reason that extra room has been added at all the right places. If you are not carrying an SUV full of people, you have enough space to carry big cargo.

The refined and elegant look of the new Expedition can capture everyone’s attention. With its many technological and mechanical advancements, the Ford Expedition 2018 manages to make a splash in its category of full sized SUVs.
