2018 Subaru Legacy Review

The biggest boon of choosing a sedan as your next car is that you’ll have plenty of fuel efficiency and interior comforts. However, in some cases, this might come at the expense of superior handling and safety.

Pittsburgh, Wexford, and Butler drivers looking for a supremely maneuverable and high-performing sedan ought to be pleased with the 2018 Subaru Legacy. In this review, the Baierl Automotive team will show you why.

2018 Subaru Legacy Performance Specs

For the majority of sedans on the market today, a two-wheel drive system is standard. In a lighter weight car, this is a fine option. However, it may still lack in traction and stability on slick, unfavorable roads.

The 2018 Subaru Legacy isn’t like other sedans though. It makes its Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system standard, that way you can always count on precise handling.

This pairs quite well with the standard 2.5L 4-cylinder BOXER® engine in the Legacy. This horizontally-opposed powertrain has a low center of gravity unique to its design. This aids in keeping your maneuverability balanced.

A Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission is also standard. Not only does this keep your ride smooth, but it also aids in maintaining an EPA-estimated 34 MPG highway and 25 MPG city.

Added Safety Features

While the AWD system and BOXER® engine can be considered safety features in and of themselves (the low center of gravity also helps the engine drop below the passenger cabin in an accident), the 2018 Legacy has more to offer.

To supplement your handling, you’ll have Vehicle Dynamics Control, the Traction Control System, and Active Torque Vectoring. Together, they can enhance cornering abilities, wheel-grip, and more.

However, more impressive than this may be the available EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. If you add in this suite, you’ll benefit from the following features:

These features all utilize small cameras and sensors to monitor the road around your vehicle. When it determines that a collision may be imminent, it will take action, either through warnings, or steering and brake corrections.

Legacy Infotainment

The safety suite isn’t the only part of the Legacy where you’ll find some neat technologies. The infotainment system is just as cutting-edge.

Subaru STARLINK™ is the focal point of your car’s media. Standard in the base trim is a 6.5-inch touchscreen version. However, there are also two 8-inch versions available, one of which comes with multimedia navigation.

In the standard version, you’ll have mobile integration with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, as well as Pandora® and Aha™ smartphone apps. Bluetooth® hands-free calling and streaming is also included.

You’ll get even more apps in the 8-inch versions, all which will sound terrific if streamed over the available Harman Kardon® premium audio system.
